Can I Use Vinegar for Cleaning Mosaic Tiles on My Wall?

The answer to that question depends upon your tile material. You cannot use vinegar for cleaning and stain removal on every type of tile.

Not Suitable for Walls built with Natural Stones and Porous Tiles

Materials, like marble, travertine, granite, and slate, and unpolished ceramic, cement, and clay tiles should not be cleaned or washed with vinegar or cleansing solutions that contain vinegar. You MUST NOT clean them with acid or acid-based cleansers as well.

According to tile manufacturers, these chemicals can have an adverse impact on the quality of tiles and cause discolorations on the them. Natural stones, like marble and travertine, can get damaged beyond repair.

Evidently, vinegar and acids react with the composition of the stone, and cause them severe damage. If you have porous tiles on your wall, then vinegar or colorful cleansing solutions can leave stains on them – which will never really fade out.

So, if you want to avoid staining and damaging, you should avoid using vinegar (and acids) on your mosaic tile walls.

What about Walls with Porcelain mosaic tile and glass mosaic tile?

Vinegar doesn’t react with porcelain and glass surfaces. That makes them a suitable material for cleaning with vinegar.

Why is that so?

Chemical composition is that answer for that. Have you ever realised that vinegar and acid and cleansing solution that contains alkaline and acidic chemicals, are kept and sold in glass or plastic bottles and jars?

Vinegar and acid don’t cause any harm to tiles built using porcelain (ceramic) and glass.

So, if you have porcelain, ceramic, and glass mosaic tiles on your walls, you can clean and wash them with vinegar.
