  1. Assemble all the tools, materials, and gear required for tile removal and installation. You will also need a hammer, large nail, and chisel for tile removal.

  2. Start breaking the tiles using a pointed hammer which is also known as sledgehammer.

  3. Do not apply too much pressure, you might break the base of the floor.

  4. After breaking a few tiles, use floor scraper to remove remaining tiles.

  5. Try to find a space underneath the tiles, and slide the floor scraper there. Apply some pressure on the tool and it will pop and remove the tile.

  6. Remove the tile adhesive and grout as well.

  7. Collect all the debris in a bin.

  8. Now, it is time remove the underlayment too.

  9. Check the condition of the subfloor. If it requires repair, fix it properly.

  10. Make sure that the subfloor on which the underlayment and tiles will be applied is perfectly level.
